27/03/07 - Towards Baton Rouge - Left New Orleans @ 11.00am across the Pontchartrain Causeway - the longest road bridge in the USA. According to a guy in the Welcome Centre its 24.3 miles long. (ie longer than the crossing between Dover and Calais - can you imagine?) Believe me its impressive. It even has its own parish (St Tammany). God knows why, it's just a road over water. Anyway I measured the distance and it's only 24.0 miles (Americans like to exaggarate!).
Played golf at a David Toms signature course - Carter Plantation - excellent. (but i need a lesson or two!) Teed-off @ 2.30pm finished @ 5.15pm. I didn't see any other golfers on the course - I guess because it's in the middle of nowhere - Springfield, LA and it's only just opened.
Stopped off at a Days Inn car park for the night, east of Baton Rouge. Decided that 20/night for 90 days on campgrounds is too costly to continue doing, so I'm "boondocking". I've a full tank of petrol, and fresh water. My generator is fully operable and I have a full tank of propane for cooking. My Dump tanks are empty, so i'm set for the night. I'm currently logged onto the motel's website (wireless). It's so convenient being in my RV with all the creature comforts of home. I can't recommend this type of holiday, enough.
