26/03/07 - New Orelans - Frustrating day today. Started off with a problem with my wireless connection which I couldn't fix. Asked the Campground staff, they couldn't really help. Gave me the phone number of a guy called Ray. He couldn't help. Gave me the address of "PC - Tune-ups. He could help, but it would take 3 days! Decided to buy an external wireless card. That worked. Now lunchtime, no golf today.
Next problem, Digital camera (3 months old) wouldn't focus. Went to Wal-Mart, they couldn't help. Now if I was in the UK, no problem, repair under warranty. But what do you do when you have 10 weeks left? You have to buy another camera and fix the problem on my return. So back to Wal-Mart.
This took so long I missed the courtesy bus into town (15 miles). So the only alternative was public transport. This took an hour and a half, by which time it was dark.
So here I am on Bourbon Street (9.00pm) with all that jazz, blues, showgirls, sex shops, live sex etc.. I'm glad I came. Not much different to Bangkok, except cleaner, cooler and much better live music. In fact the atmosphere is much more relaxed and less oppressive. (I prefer New Orleans.) Downtown is really cool and clean but I shouldn't have missed that bus when I could have seen more during daylight. "C'est la vie" as they say in the French Quarter.
Onwards and upwards, next stop Baton Rouge.
