Kathryn loves the C-17, especially when there is no cargo! That was the case on this flight. Fifty some seats and all 44 of us waiting were able to board. It was a nice 8 hour flight to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. Kathryn spread a jacket down on the floor and sacked out. Nice thing about flying from Japan to Hawaii, is that you arrive EARLIER the same day you leave! We left Japan Friday afternoon, and arrived in Hawaii Friday morning.
We were teased with flights to California almost immediately after landing. One C-5 plane's rollcall kept getting delayed due to equipment malfunctions. We stayed in the terminal as there was no room at the base lodging and the flights are unpredictable. After a while, we headed over to Waikiki and hung out at Fort Derussy (waterfront hotel property owned by the military) and the kids got to play in the ocean. Turns out a friend from Taekwondo lives only a block or so away, so we had a nice visit with Emily, as she came out and played in the ocean and as it was within a day of her birthday, we took her to dinner. Next time we are planning on STAYING for a bit in Hawaii.....as Emily has promised the kids a sleepover at her place, which means date night for us!
There are flights in the morning. Hopeful the next blog entry will be from California!
