Flag of Brazil  , State of Parana,
Thursday, August 14, 2008

On 14th August, we took an overnight bus to Foz do Iguaçu.....23 hours (one way) on a bus, hideous but saved us over $1,000 in airfares.

The falls really are impressive, a series of huge waterfalls. The power and noise of the water is amazing, difficult to capture in photos.
The first day we explored the falls from Brazil and the next day we took a day trip across the border to see the falls from Argentina. We enjoyed the experience from both sides....Brazil gives the more dramatic overview whereas Argentina gives a more close-up experience.

We went on a power boat under the falls in Argentina, both got a complete soaking......amazing power of the water!!

The falls are in the jungle, so lots of wildlife, including hundreds of butterflies, racoon-like creatures, monkeys.

Also, lots of rainbows.

Just oh so slightly more impressive than Niagara!! We were talking about Iguaza around the dinner table last night as people been to a conference there... hmm... now I'm wondering how I can get there too! Maybe not on the bus?? Keep up the good diary.

Cold snap in Sydney due tomorrow...yee haa... enjoying winter....not...

Enjoy the travels and looking forward to the slideshow sometime soon in Sydney!

Re: Lovely rainbow!!
Hi Bindi
Great to hear from you :)
It is possible to fly to the falls from Rio but cost more than $700 each! Shorter bus journey from Buenos Aires, so could be an option for your next holiday......see you all soon.
