Of course this morning was gorgeous, I went on a nice run down to Wasserburg (a neighboring town) and walked the local grounds of the church and lakefront. It was quite nice. I headed back to the hotel just in time for breakfast. Once again it was quite tasty and fully enjoyed. A quick shower, pack, and check-out and I was back on the road to Freidrichshafen.
Well I wrapped up the show early this afternoon and decided to take a little drive down through Austria and to Vaduz, Lichtenstein. Yes, cross one more country off my list! Unfortunately, at about noon today the weather did a complete 180 turn and the rain began and came down hard. So my entire drive today was in a constant downpour. With the rain comes the clouds so the beautiful mountains that I was searching could not be seen at all. I bit of a bummer, but I made the most of it. Once in Vaduz, I checked out Cathedral St Florin and took a random & short side hike... yes i took video to explain. Let's just say I heard a waterfall behind the cathedral so I went exxploring and found a little trail... it was fun.... but wet... soaking, soaking wet. After that I drove around the town trying to get a good view of the Lichtenstein Castle (where the Prince of Lichtenstein lives of course)... Luckily I was able to get a shot through the clouds so we'll see how it turns out.
So after that adventure I headed back into Switzerland (across the river) and on to Rapperswil. Rapperswil is a neat town towards the middle of Lake Zurich (aka: Zurichsee) and you can cross the lake there via a earthen dam. So I did that then got off the main road and drove the final 25-30 km to Zurich via the beach road instead of the highway. This was a nice change of pace and put me right into old town Zurich which is where I needed to be. A few wrong turns later and commuter train scares (yes they share the road with cars in Zurich), I found a place to part and set out on foot to find the hotel. It is in old town in which most of it is closed to cars. I quickly checked in, tossed my stuff in the room and headed towards the lakefront for some photos.... yes its raining, but getting some photos is better than no photos. I think I still managed quite well and some of them will turn out. It is a neat area that has that classic old-feel... lots of clocktowers going off all the time.
Well it was then time for some dinner... hmmm... everything is in Deutsch so I can't read a thing, but I can read prices...EXPENSIVE... yes it deserves all caps.... for example a big mac meal is 13 CHF (Swiss Francs) which translates to nearly $17... so you can imagine how much a "normal" restaurant would cost. In any case, I decided to stay on the cheap and give one of the many "take away" places a try. I got a Kebap platter... essentially a Gyro platter with chicken and shaved beef. It was ok and of course it and a water still cost me 21.50 CHF.... YIKES...
I am in my room now taking a little break. I may walk back down the the water and see if I can get and night photos of the area.... I miss you and my little Mia very much! Michael
