You would not believe how hard it seems to be to get the time for updating the log! I tried twice but ran out of time so here is a brief update as the library I'm in is closing in a short time.
Aleida and I arrived in Amsterdam and met the Kids at the airport. We then went to the campground Amsterdam Bos (bush) and spent a very cold night after a long long walk for groceries! Next day we hiked again into the heart of Amsterdam after a metro ride to Central station. We saw the redlight district and other sights, then found one of the main firehalls in Amsterdam. That was cool as one of the firefighters spoke very good english and showed me around. I even got the chance to operate their arial ladder for a short time! Pictures may have to wait till another edition of the blog but I have them!
We rented bikes for a day on friday and saw more of the city with a visit to Anne Franks house as one of the highlights.
Saturday we came to Barchem by train with a couple of train changes on the fly. Boy oh boy these people are punctual! When they say the next train out leaves in four minutes, They Mean IT! We did make every change ok but it was close once. In Barchem we have a nice little bungalow rented and we are nice and cozy there. Warm and every thing, but our stay here comes to an end on Saturday when we head out to Arnhem. We want to see where "a Bridge too far" happened in the war, as Opa has told me that he saw the planes going over at that time and knew something big was happening.
While here Wifely has once more gotten us lost for a time but it ended well as "Here we are". We've been visiting most of the relatives, and have a few more to go, but it's been fun. Mark and Michelle were with us till this afternoon and left for Amsterdam to catch a 20 hr bus ride to Prague leaving at 09:00 tomorrow.
We will be travelling to England by plane from Eindhoven on Monday, and our plans have changed slightly from there. We realise that we don't have a huge amount of time so will miss our intended trip to Manchester most likely. We do however hope to rent a small car and see the airfield my cousin flew from in WW11. Will try to keep this up a little better from now on but no promises, as internet availability may be sketchy, Till next time Bark, and Aleida
