Where I stayed
Checotah West KOA Kampground
Wow, slept late today didn't get up till 8:30 am...but on the road by 9:45 am. I was still full from the big steakhouse last night. Watched the news thank God we did not go to Oklahoma City area they had bad tornadoes. Long interstate drive today, didn't do much else...very boring. We went past Garth Brooks hometown, Yukon, OK...thought I was in Alaska with that name. I never realized how many Indians tribes were out here until now a different reservation with every 10 miles. And they all have a casino...never saw this many casinos...not even in Las Vegas. We drove past the area in Oklahoma City where they had the tornadoes last night...Love's Truck Stop is no longer there...really wild. The traffic was backed up for about 3 miles from people looking...just like we did...unbelieveble...heard on the news this morning 85 people were there and all survived a real miracle. The weather is beautiful today hope it stays this nice no wind at all. Attempted to get off the interstate and go to a campground that was in the book...what a nightmare we could not find it and had nowhere to turn around. Finally found a parking lot to turn around in and back to the interstate drove down about 15 miles and found the KOA. That was in Troy Aikman's hometown of Henryetta, OK. Guess he should help out the old town. I must say they did have a big medical center there right off the interstate. We arrived at the campground at about 4:30 pm and they had limited electric service from the tornadoes. Also, many of their trees were blown down...very scary. Off to Hot Springs, Arkansas tomorrow...yes I am taking a bath!!!
