Today we have entered Prince William Sound. It is very wet and foggy. We can't see any of the glaciers in the sound. We have done very little on board these last two days, but the rest was appreciated. It was in Prince William Sound where the Exxon Valdez hit a reef and spilled 11 million gallons of oil and did untold damage to the wildlife. In the afternoon they stopped the ship near a glacier called "Surprise". It was freezing cold, wet and foggy and we could go in the Zodiacs for a closer look. About half chickened out but we at last convinced ourselves we should go and leave the nice dry, warm ship and have a closer look at the glacier. We put on all the warm and waterproof gear we could find and set sail. Well it was worth the effort. We saw the deep blue glacier calving, felt the wave as the ice entered the water and once again heard the thundering noise of its movements. An awesome sight. We arrived back on board cold, wet and yet we really hadn't noticed it as we floated along peering at the enormity of it all. The Aussies had a bit of a farewell party and of course sang "Walzing Matilda" to the Kiwis disgust.
