After an easy morning, we met Catherine and Howard Bennett for lunch. Catherine's mother, Blodwen, can remember her cousin, Graham’s father, leaving for Australia in 1925.  She is now 99 and in a nursing home with her husband Trevor.  They were married at 70 years of age and are now nearly 29 years married!!!  Catherine took us to visit them in the evening in Oswestry.  It was lovely for Graham to see her again and for her to reminisce and she was sure she could see the family resemblance.  In the afternoon, we revisited the Foel area and the houses that Graham’s Grandfather ("Lettypiod") and Father (“Llettyderyn”) were born.  “Lletyderyn” was for sale and we were able to go inside, where the original beams were still there over the fireplace and what was most noticeable were the low height of the ceilings and doors.   It was a rare experience for Graham to imagine what it must have been like for his father as he left here for the last time to go to establish a new home in Australia.  With his father dying in 1914 and his mother in 1924, Griff Davies and his brother, Edward, left the poverty and poor job prospects in Wales to arrive by boat in Melbourne and went to work in the Mallee district of Victoria before coming north to Mackay in 1927 to purchase land to grow sugar cane at Chelona.
