Hello again,
I wasn't able to get the photos into the blurb from yesterday so I'm doing a new entry.  Hopefully this will have the pictures!! Sorry....I'm technologically challenged!  You patience is appreciated!

On Sunday we had the delight of worshipping at the Frauenkirche,  and it was a powerful experience.  I must say I have never seen people line up to get into church.

See the pictures...it is pretty amazing!  A little history about the Frauenkirche:  on Feb. 13 and 14, 1945, bombs were dropped on Dresden even though some felt the war was pretty much over.  Over 35,000 people died and most of the city was destroyed.  When the smoke cleared the Frauenkirche was still standing.  It burned for two days before finally collapsing.  After the war it was left in rubble as a reminder of the importance of peace in the world.

In 1992 the restoration began, however, and stones from the old church are interspersed with the new, causing somewhat of a checkerboard in places.  Donors from around the world helped pay over 100 million euros for the restoration (90% from donors).  Some of the original bombed out altar is part of the new altar today.

Our trip home was eventful as one of the trains we expected to take didn't exist so we ended up going on a side trip to Berlin.  No problem....we were on "holiday" and had an open-ended ticket so there was no extra charge.

The weekend was filled with powerful experiences and we are constantly reminded of the destruction of war, as well as the incredible strength  and spirit of the people who rebuild and recover.

**Sorry about the photos.  I had trouble getting them all loaded up.  They should all be there today (May 22). bg
