Our first week in Wittenberg was filled with new adventures and many learning experiences. The German people are very forgiving of my limited German. Bob's German improves more quickly because of his background. We are doing ok on that score...pointing sometimes helps, as well.
The Wittenberg Center welcomes pilgrims who want to experience the land of Luther and put that entire period into the here and now. We had the opportunity to join a tour for some of the events and learned so much about what went on here before, during and after the Reformation. We worshipped on Saturday night in the castle church where Luther nailed the 95 theses....the preacher was a pastor from Kansas! Bob and I got to read the lessons in Luther's church! Pretty cool!
We have also enjoyed the countryside on two bike trips
Our first shopping experience was entertaining, but productive. With the help of a store clerk we found everything we needed. There are no grocery bags, and since we didn't bring our cloth bags, we loaded our groceries back into the cart to take to the car we had borrowed, and then returned the cart to retrieve the 1 euro we paid to get the cart in the first place. Thus, there are no carts in the parking lot.
Tomorrow will begin Barb's first English class and that will be fun, I'm sure.
Until next time.....
