We decided to take a van to Sengiggi Beach, which was the one that everyone was talking about. We heard it was 25 KM and 45 minutes away from the port. Well, our driver decided we really needed to see a traditional village which was 'on the way' to the beach. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, we arrived at the beach. The village was interesting but his main reason for going there was for us to shop in the only shop in the place, probably because it was owned by a relative. We were furious. After all that we only spent an hour at the beach. It was pretty bad. Dark sand, dirty, no place to sit down. 95 degrees F.
We told the driver we wanted to get back fast, so he got us back to the port in under an hour. Luckily it only cost us $80 for the 6 of us. Not a total waste of time as we did get to see the countryside. Seems cleaner and tidier than Bali, but there is really nothing on this island that we could see. Apparently, the white sand beaches are in the opposite direction from where we went but are too far from the port to get there and back in our timeframe.
