Another day, another island.

Today we catch the boat to a nearby island called Koh Lanta and Lonely Planet says it is cool so we thought we would take a look. It's off season so we don't expect it to be busy and we should arrive about lunch time. With this in mind we decide to just wing it and so don't arrange any accomodation in advance, we just strap on our still FAR too heavy bags and head for the pier. A good choice as it turns out. On the boat we are approached by the coolest Thai man we have met so far. He's kitted out in a brown patterned shirt and flared brown cords. He has shoulder length curly hair, a long chin beard and shades. He hands us a broachure of his family's resort and tell us about the facilities etc. He's very laid back and says he will drive us there for a look and if we don't like it then no problem. It looks good and the price he quoted us is the cheapest we have paid for a room so far (about 5 per each night) and it isn't just any room, it is a beachside bungalow complete with balcony and sea view! Sitting back we notice there are lots of similar touts on the boat all gathering up people to ferry to their various resorts.

After we dock we see the various touts with their minivans and bench-lined trucks herding dozens of people onboard. We find our guy and look around for our minivan and the other people he has persuaded. He doesn't have one and there arn't any. He has an open backed truck and we are his only cargo. Shrugging to each other we climb on and bouce away down the road. It rains. Luckily it's a brief shower and we are dry again by the time we get to our destination.

Arriving at the beach resort called 'Paradise' we check in for one night and then a few hours later we pay for a further two nights. The place is beautiful. It is practically deserted and we only see one other couple. We have the beach and the pool (almost) to ourselves. It is incredibly peaceful here and the staff are very friendly. There is a bar and a restaurant and tomorrow we can hire a scooter to explore the island. We are going to like it here.

After we unpack we hit the beach and go for a swim. The water is warm and the only other people about are a few Thai fishermen a little way down the beach. We take a walk and stop at a Thai-Chinese restaurant for dinner. After dinner our host advises us to make a dash for home as the rain is coming again, in the distance is a massive cloud with a strange hole in its middle. We start off at a slow walk along the beach. The slow walk soon turns in to a run as the speed of the appoaching storm cloud is very fast! We make to the shelter of Paradise with only a mild soaking and some nice photos of the cloud :)

Later we check out the bar, its called Majestic and the couple running it are lovely. They are full of laughter and smiles and all the furniture is made from driftwood. It is supercool. We are the only people in the bar and they keep the drinks at happyhour prices until we leave! We have a mixture of cocktails then hit the sack.
