After months of preparation and a last week of frantic planning and packing we finally set off on our way to Bangkok. We caught a connecting flight from Manchester to London, then from London to Bangkok, 14 hours no problem. Except for the small fact our connecting flight was delayed which in turn made us miss the flight to Bangkok! Thanks BA! (The airline, not the guy out of the A-Team). Although to be fair to BA they did put us up in a fancy hotel with a lovely breakfast and free transport. And as our bags were in the airport system somewhere they supplied us with overnight bags which contained all the essentials for an overnight stay. Ian's even had a comb in it!

30 hours later and we touched down in the land of smiles :) It was hot. very hot. and it was only 6am. And Anna was wearing a fleece. and 2 vests. Passport control was easy and soon we were driving though downtown Bangkok with a man called Mr. Sutti. The mix between old and new, rich and poor, west and east is evident everywhere. The usual 25 min taxi ride turned out to be well over an hour due to traffic but soon we were alone in a new place with bags that were FAR too heavy, trying to find the guesthouse which was hiding down a ginnel, which we only just fitted down in single file carrying our elephant sized packs on our backs. We even had a helpful tuk-tuk driver who charged us a pound to drive us round the block a couple of times at breakneck speed as he tried to find the secret entrance! it was fun and a bit scary .....and a waste of a pound!

The journey and its issues were made much easier by approaching the whole thing with a sense of humour and being relaxed. We laughed from the outset and hope to continue doing so.

Now time for sleep!
