First a little explanation why we spent a week over Xmas in Pulheim, which is a little town about 20 minutes out of Cologne in west Germany.

We stayed with the Hegewald family. During 2010, their daughter Sophia did a student exchange and came out to Australia and stayed with us for 3 months, then Amelia went back with Sophia to Germany and spent 3 months over Xmas with the Hegewalds. The girls got on really well and with Amelia doing VCE German in 2012 we thought it would be good for her to spend some more time in Germany. The Hegewalds were very happy to have Amelia (their third daughter) and then we invited ourselves to their place and they suggested over Xmas, this then turned into also the two families travelling to Paris together for New Year.
