Yaaay!  Finally, I can pin a new location on my blog outside of Montreal (and New York!).  wooooot wooot!  Well, I arrived safe and sound in Vancouver on the 18th after an amazing sendoff from my Montreal friends the previous night at La Popessa and Lola Lounge.  Thank you guys for a lovely evening and I'm so happy to have seen you all before heading off on my big adventure!  It meant a lot to me to spend some time with you... no matter how brief...

I expected the weather in Vancouver to be rainy... tis the season!  Thankfully, I'm armed with my warm fleece, dependable MEC rain jacket and compact umbrella (thanks T!) so the weather doesn't bug me much.  I've been here for two weeks, and thankfully the rain only dampened the first few days of my trip.  The temperature has hovered between 5-20 degrees Celsius throughout my stay with many glimpses of the sun!

By the way, Mike and I caught an AWESOME movie during my stay: Across the Universe.  A great film that I highly recommend.  You can't beat the original versions, but the performers did a phenomenal job reinterpreting these Beatle classics.  Check it out when you can!  Gotta get my hands on the movie soundtrack.

Last Tuesday was BEAUTIFUL, warm and sunny.  Mike brought me downtown where we rented bikes and checked out the pretty views along the Sea Wall.  We also spied on the geese, ducks, swans and a heron at Lost Lagoon.

The Heart of the City Festival was also happening while I was in town.  Was able to check out an exhibit at the Gallery Gachet called "Maleta", dedicated to bringing to light the stories and experiences of the migrant Filipino.  The Gallery presented an interdisciplinary party at the crossroads of four festivals! It was an evening of Filipino Performance Art, First Nations, Pinoy, and Latina Hip Hop, African Spoken Word and Chinese electronic remixes that address Canada's immigrant experience.

I've also had a chance to catch up with old friends and make new acquaintances while I've been here.   E, Jimbo and Sin... Ninang and Ninong... pretty much my family in Vancouver!

Greg, salsa buddies till we're old and grey (haha... we're almost there!).  Ellen and Bryan, thank you for sharing a meal with Mike and I.  You guys are the coolest parents (besides my own, of course) and your son is truly lucky.  Mike has also introduced me to his amazing friends who are generous to a fault, spontaneous and full of funny stories.   I know he could never replace his Montreal buddies, but am really glad to have met his new circle of friends.

On the plane trip to Vancouver, I picked up a book that came highly recommended and now pass on the info to you guys.  If you can, pick up a great book called "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Once you're done, check out her website to find out what has been happening in her life since completing the book - http://www.elizabethgilbert.com/faq.htm.  I've also had the chance to read "City of Glass" by Douglas Coupland which is his love letter to Vancouver as well as The Red Tent by Anita Diamont, which was suggested by E and her champion and cheerleader, Jessica!  We all need a Jessica in our lives =D.

Off to San Francisco tomorrow.  The adventure continues...

Fried chicken?? Churches!
Hey Hannah,
On your way to Metrotown if you're in the mood go to the Churches Chicken on Kingsway. I swear its filipino run and it's amazing... c'mon everything plastic utensils EXCEPT the metal spoons! I bet if you asked the Lolo bussing tables nicely you can get rice from the back and I think I saw Sarsi as a fountain drink!!
After 5 days in Vancouver do you have your own personalized Starbucks drink yet? C'mon nothing says West coast more than that. Mine is a Med Cafe Americano with a shot of Hazlenut poured in a large cup filled with ice... and that was the least complicated one of my friends' orders!
