So yeah, its all good frankly!!! Byron Bay has been the talk of many traveller who has been here, saying its a small place with a good feel to it with loads of hippies everywhere and musicians in the streets. To tell me that, sends alarms bells ringing and I booked myself a place.
First off, the hostel I am staying at is pretty cool. It has its own 'lagoon' type pool which is cool although the recent weather seems to be stopping people from swimming in it, and I think it is surrounded by women before I have woken up. The first night here, there was a communal 200 peep BBQ, and although I still kept myself to myself, the food was nice. The town itself is a little 'shacky' in places and 'trendy' in others, so I have yet to work out whether it has lived up to expectations. There are restaurants here which wouldn't look out of place in central London. It does look out of place next to some blokes shop selling his entire clothing collection, unwashed. This place has got its name for being the 'alternative' and now the whole town seems to be trying too hard to live up to its own name. In a way it is good, because we don't seem to have anywhere like this in the UK, so it is flooded with English backpackers, who continue to get shitfaced every night, and anyone that has ever worn tie-dye, had flesh tunnels in their ears or is sporting dreadlocks, and thinks this is where they 'belong'. Do not get me wrong, I will probably look back fondly of this place, but the air had a fake aroma about it, as I write this. But come here for yourselves and make up your own mind.
So I signed up to do my advanced diving course here. I haven't done enough diving since USA and so time to dust off the flippers and goggles and get wet again. Thankfully the weather is getting nicer and nicer. I just don't get why it wasn't like this for chrimbo.
