So the south island is here. I'm impressed already, as it had been sunny for most days constantly. This Island, is not as populated at the North island, with only 25% of New Zealander's living here. It's more scenic than the north. If scenic gets yer juices going people, then come here for holiday/to live/etc. I've seen loads, thought I would get bored and then I see something else, and think "New Zealand rules"

The ferry over was at 1:30am and I ended up sleeping under some tables in a dining area,as all of the couches had been nicked. Getting into Picton at 4:30am, we all slept in the van, with me getting the short straw of trying to sleep in the passenger seat, upright!! Didn't happen, which results in me being a right **** for the day.

So we have been driving around the Marlborough District for a while. Its right up the top of New Zealand. There are still a lot of winding roads, trees, mountains etc. I have seen enough trees, mountains and scenic outlooks to send me to sleep (as it often does). Went on a few walks through national parks. One trek was about 4 hrs and was nothing special. A few nice looks to get the camera's out for, but a lot of it was just walking through forest. Then we did another walk through a national park, and it was amazing. It's the Abel Tasman trek. My legs were killing me at the end, but I was walking above massive gauges, rivers, waterfalls, streams, and then you turn a corner and its all arid and dry. Absolutely awesome. It finished on the beach with golden sands, and I just thought "sweet". It's a gorgeous area here. Since we have been here, my impressions on NZ have gone through the roof. Everyone said "get to the south island as soon as possible", but we fannied around up north, and now we know what everyone was on about. I slept under the stars and could see for miles, and we are sleeping next to dead dogs, cow poo, toilets, farmlands, you know the drill. If anyone reading this is thinking of going to New Zealand, GO TO THE SOUTH ISLAND FIRST!!!!

Right now, we are in a town called Westport (on the west!!!), doing laundry, emails, shopping etc. We are heading south to trek over some glaciers, which should be awesome. Still have a lot of time left here, but will seem life a life sentence sharing the experience with Ulli, Sue and Idiot boy. Due to leave NZ around the 8th November, after we sell the van in Auckland. Another short entry, but all we've done is walk.
