Well, it is finally here. Months of planning, checking things off lists and it all comes down to 35 pounds of stuff in a backpack, which is currently on a conveyer belt somewhere in the airport.  My carry on has my pink HP netbook, tamiflu, cough drops, iPhone (loaded up with Beginner's Portuguese), global plug adapter, chapstick, hand sanitizer, passport, fleece, inflatable neck pillow, eye cover, shawl, power bars, vaccination card, international cell phone, ibuprofen, DayQuil, vitamins, sunglasses, extra set of unmentionables, journal, playing cards, earplugs, kleenex, Starbucks Via coffee and moleskin!  I figure if my luggage gets lost, I can survive for several days with just this stuff.  I am currently sitting in the President's lounge, Terminal E, watching golf, drinking beer and eating crackers and cheese.  Feeling pretty good about putting those miles to good use right now!! I'm resisting the urge to stuff my pockets with "free" pretzels and cookies :)  We got here 4 hours early--were afraid that we would get hung up in security.  No issues--not sure if that makes me feel safer??!!

So... how am I feeling about all this?  I guess it isn't REAL, even yet.  I can't really get my head around it--especially the part that we have nothing beyond 3 nights in Rio booked, 3 weeks on a farm in Argentina, and a timeline for going to the UK to see friends in June.  I cannot remember the last time I was this spontaneous.  Remember when you were a kid, and your parents planned every day for you--all you had to do was get out of bed and you were shuffled to school, where they fed you and taught you, then you came home and played games or whatever, but you never knew what you were going to do until you were doing it. That is how I feel about this trip!  It is hard for me, being the control freak that I am :) to let it all go.  It is quite freeing, actually. I'm feeling incredibly relaxed and ready for anything!

Jeff is snoozing the leather lounge chair next to me, I think he is finally relaxed, too :)  More from RIO!!

Glad you guys are on your way! Take the cookies and squirrel them away in the little pockets in your bag. You will be happy about them in a few days when you need a tiny snack.

Jeff looks really stressed in the white leather lounger! My prayers for your safety and blessings!
