After the somewhat disasterous day yesterday we got up fairly promptly and into town to post our accumulated goodies back to the UK. It was not to be. The Post Office was shut, for a national holiday, ON A TUESDAY??! So extremely frustrated we lugged out gifts and other rubbish back to the Jade Market, which we had one really scraped the surface of,the day before last. We knew what we wanted and we were on amission. The mission took a good 2-3hrs mind you. Strolling and sampling and haggling until we both bought a couple of lovely pendants each which we had re-strung for us. After all the excitement we stuffed some lunchand caught the tube across the bay and along the coast of Hong Kong Island where we caught a bus whch took us to Shek O, one of the island's best beaches. Sadly, due to our extreme hopping habits we got there a bit late and sun was on the wane, so we just had an hour and half of waning sunshine before we had to join the enormous queue to cathc the bus back again, but I was glad we went all the same.

When we got back to the hotel (via the supermarket on the way) we collected our bags and caught yet another cab to the Airport Express. Here we set up shop for our supper of bread and cheese, much to the fascination of an elderly Chinese lady. We had spread out a beach mat on the floor and were very much enjoying our supper under her watchful eye, after which we were able to go through the barriers and check our luggage in. Its a greta system - the airport is actually on the next island, but you can check your bags in at HKK and then catch the train across unhindered to the aiport, great stuff!

When we arrived, we went through customs, much to amusement of the officers, they couldn't understand why we were clearing customs a good 8 hours before we were flying. I had to hand over my tweezers which I had negligently left in my hand luggage, they very kindly packed them up for me and checked them in a cargo for me which I was really chuffed about. We spent a couple of hours at stand-up freebie internet machines and then made our bed for the night in a corner of the departure lounge, just behind a flower pot.
