October 1964: The first proving flight of British United Airways' new VC-10 aircraft to South America. I was on board carrying out aircraft performance measurements for subsequent analysis in the office. The two day stopover was a great adventure for me, and for the representative of Vickers who I was working alongside. The hotel was right opposite the Copacabana beach. We enjoyed a short city tour laid on by Freddie Laker, and had time for our own sightseeing and shopping.
I passed through Rio again one year later on a business trip, this time travelling as a regular passenger, and not on a jump seat in the cockpit.
