Since arriving in Zürich we have been immersed in a culture that encourages respect, independence, and creativity.

Creativity is especially encouraged in our children's schools. They each have a weekly class called "Handarbeit", where they learn hand crafts and make useful, fun things. They also have art, and K even has a sewing class where he made a T-shirt, wallet, and pencil case.

The community also offers many opportunities for children to express their creativity and to learn formal skills in building. At our local Gemeinschaftszentrum (See TP#37) the kids (and adults) have access to a full scale wood-working shop and metal shop. There is also a room for potters and for other craft activities.

During the November-December holiday season there were several places in town for dipping candles, and our children thoroughly enjoyed the freedom and fun of making candles for our home. (See TP#27, soon to be available.....)

The pictures associated with this journal entry show a variety of things that the kids have made over our last four months while living here. We are very grateful for the opportunities they have had here.
