The winter holiday is well underway for me. So far it's been a whole lot of unexciting mixed in with spurts of expat adventures sprinkled with some of the worst professional incompetence I've experienced in my life.
Last week I took a trip out to a place called Chicken Mountain. I'll have to go back in and edit this entry, but for the moment this will just be a photo dump.
I also too advantage of the time off to get my wrist checked out. I hurt it a while ago, but it wasn't until recently that I noticed that there was a large bump on the end of the bone. Getting checked into the hospital was fine. Since I was accustomed to being in a hospital I brought a 700 page book. My school rep was not and brought nothing. She was bored.
Finally we saw the doctor. The guy was the head orthopedic doctor at the hospital. He took a look at my wrist and told me nothing was wrong with it (Grrr) and I should just let it rest for a while. After explaining to him that it wasn't a fresh injury and that it did hurt he sent me off to get an Xray. The xray portion of it was fine except for that the folks registering me got my name wrong (not my English name, my Chinese name). They couldn't fix it in their system (really?).
So a long while later my xrays are done and we take them back to the all knowing doctor. He tells me to rest my wrist more. I ask him how because I no longer do anything on it and it's my left hand. I told him I didn't even do yoga anymore because it hurt to do that. If I knew the word for masturbate I would have told him I didn't even do that just for effect and emphasis. He then told me to put a brace on it. I told him I had been looking for one for a long time but couldn't find one even at sports stores or pharmacies. He told me to look at a bigger sports store. I asked him where they were and he just said, "They're around." He also told me to apply heat to the joint. For my body this is the wrong thing to do. Even when my joints are fine applying heat to them will make them swell up and become very painful. I explained this to him and that he needs to tell me to do something other than put heat on it he goes, "oh. Well, then you should rest it more, put a brace on it and apply heat."
Yes O wonderful all knowing doctor. I still haven't found a suitable brace.
