After we visited Urfa, we somehow found a dolmus (pronounced as doalmoosh....minibus) which took us to/past Kahta, about an hour and half drive north to Mt. Nemrut. This was the area that we stayed in a Pension which was about 8km from the mountain peak. To even get to this place we swerved our way through various villages in the middle of nowhere, up and down mountains then up again, all over and back again to get there. At one point during our ride, our driver stopped in a village to pick up something randomly, which may or may not have been a huge potato-sack bag of drugs... not sure at the time. It sat beside me the rest of the way...fitting huh... the girl that can't be around drugs may have had them sitting beside her for over an hour in a huge potato sack. No joke! One more thing to add to our list of possible potential sketchy moments. For about 20 Lira a night each person, we were given a bed to sleep on, (only three to chose from anyways since there were only 3 rooms in the entire whole place) dinner, and breakfast. Granted our rooms were not the highest quality or the cleanest/charming, it worked out well because all we needed was a bed. So, we dropped our bags off, which consisted of a bookbag for each of us, and headed up the mountain. Scary trip up to Mt. Nemrut, but by the time we reached the top we forgot completely about the challenges to get there. Arriving just at sunset, we were surrounded by nothing but God's beautiful landscape of mountains past mountains. If you look at nothing else on my website, look at the pictures from Mt. Nemrut. The view from the top next to all the ancient stone heads was one that may top the list of pretty places I've seen. We went back to our "hotel" for dinner and bed, which was interesting alone. While one girl on the trip swore the place was haunted because she felt ghosts or eerie feelings, we did actually have a man stand outside our door for a little while. Probably just one of the workers at the place making sure things were ok, we didnt take our chances opening the locked door, Jenna(my friend) and I tucked ourselves underneath our towels and tried to sleep. I'm telling you.... the whole thing was an adventure!
