Hello from Prague!

I'm on Hostel internet once again, so the chances of this being a large entry is about as great as it making sense. Ha, logic - try that on for size!

It is my first day proper in Prague - I flew in from Basel, Switzerland (where I, Charis, have been living it up while Ona the poor dear whiles away her time in Poland, eating), yesterday afternoon.

You will, I'm sure, be pleasantly surprised to hear that I had pretty much no problems whatsoever in getting here. No arriving late for my flight problems (I was 2 hours early!), overweight luggage problems (I was under - UNDER!!!), no issues with the plane (and I even seated myself!), no problems at Prague Airport (I was not hassled by one taxi driver!), no problems converting money and buying a connecting bus/metro ticket to get me into the city (I even had to change twice!) and no problems finding accommodation (ok, maybe a teeny tiny one where I went left round the block instead of right and it took me a half hour walk instead of a five minute walk, but nothing major...) because, wait for it, I actually booked a hostel before I arrived here.

I know, you're all thinking where the hell is Charis and has some random Pole taken over her account because she's forgotten to log out of her account at a public computer again. Do you know whats even worse? I kind of think it was better this way... which is pretty much going against all my ideas on travelling and breaking the number one rule that states "pre-booking is cheating and no fun at all, where's your sense of adventure!?!" I may have to question other travelling beliefs I hold as a result. Woe.

Anyway, I'll stop blathering and actually start writing about Prague now! What do you mean, city of odd monuments? Well, if you haven't been to Prague you're missing the great 'forest' of toilet topped trees! Yes, on the main (walking) street there is a lovely copse of metal 'trees' that have various bathroom fittings attached to the tops. And that's just the beginning. There is an assortment of wooden horses walking in a garden of giant pumpkin plants, numerous blind justices sitting comfortably with farmers, warriors, cupids and, well, anything else you can think of, I'm sure. Actually, I can't even think on what else there was, just a stack of really odd bits and bobs set out as untouchables.

I've been travelling the city with a Japanese girl I met in the youth hostel - and for some reason, the giant statues that cover the famous Charles Bridge scared the shit out of her. Odd. But amusing.

Oh - and the bridge - well, the first thing I said looking out at the city and then down at the water was 'Wow, this is the XXX bridge that Vin Diesel crashed into!'

Oh, and I'm sure Ona had mentioned it to me but for some reason I didn't realise that Prague was the city of Mucha and Art Nouveau. It really, really is. I have found so many amazing shops filled with Art Nouveau furniture and stuff - I'm kind of glad that Ona isn't with me - we would have spent hours in the shops (I nearly did just with me anyway) and Ona would have complained about the thousands of dollars she spent for the next six months!

Anyway, I think that's all I have to write for just night. I've decided to stay another day - so I can visit the Mucha exhibition... I probably won't get out to the bone chapel though - it's an hour out of the city by bus.

Until next time - bye!

(there are no photo's, unfortunately, as I have no camera :()
