Note: Just so no-one (read: Charis) gets their reputation soiled unfairly, this is indeed Ona writing of these degenerate deeds.

Well, I knew it. There was only so long I could spend as a backpacker, before I finally succumbed to drinking so much that I got alcohol poisoning. Perhaps it was simply fate, for after all it happened in the ancestral home of Oktoberfest. Though thankfully not during Oktoberfest itself, or I would have been expected to recover and do it all again the next night.

So, things I learnt in Munich:

1. Going to 2 beer halls and 1 Australian pub in one night, with the constant thought of 'Crap, I don't really feel drunk enough, I really have to just keep on drinking, even though I've been drinking for 5 hours', will definately end in me having alcohol poisoning. Now I'm pretty sure it had to be alcohol poisoning, as never before in my experiences with binge drinking have I spent a whole day trying in vain to get out of bed, only to throw up EVERY SINGLE TIME. 4 times, even after sleeping 'til late afternoon.

2. HOLY GOD Germany has really large beers and really large pretzels. Hysterically large beer and pretzels. Unfortunately Charis has the video of the whole night so I can't yet show you.

3. They serve 'Watermelon Soup' at beer halls, which upon receipt just seems a lot like broth with some cabbage in it.

4. Dancing on a beer keg, to no music, while the waitress yells at you to get down so she can close the bar, probably isn't a good idea when you have a friend with you filming the whole thing.

5. Charis gets cross when you rip up every single shrub you come across on the way home, as well as taking ice-cream signs, random metal sticks, bits of police tape, bikes left unattended, and all the packets of condiments that were sitting on the table at the last bar. But she will still forgive you if you do a pouty face and give her the last flower you nicked.

Well that's all the drunken lessons I remember, I haven't seen the video of the night so I daresay theres more fountains of wisdom on there. But here's a sober lesson to slightly redeem my reputation:

6. For some reason totally unbenownst to me, Munich has quite an amazingly excellent collection of Ancient Greek artefacts. Now, somehow I've never even heard of an archaelogical museum in Munich and Lonely Planet (suprise!) didn't have one listed, so it was a very pleasant suprise when Charis and I stumbled upon it after visiting various art galleries. Among other things it contains practically every famous kylix known to man, some wonderful archaic warriors, and rather smashing Roman statue of Alexander. Do see the images for this entry if this kind of thing at all interests you.
