Where I stayed
Cameron's Trading Post
We took our time getting up this morning and decided to go to Denny's for breakfast. It was a hit all around and the kids tried grits. (Not big fans) Then we decided to go do something touristy like go to the deer petting farm… It was fun, but I should have waited to do the laundry until after the visit to the zoo… after the zoo… remember…. first animal feeding…. then laundry. Those deer ate everything in site…our shirts…our pants…. My hands were covered in deer slobber. When we returned back to the gift shop the owner asked us if we wanted to see the baby wallaby. Her name was Bindy ('yeah… like Steve Erwin’s daughter) Everyone was totally loving it, They actually got to hold the baby wallaby. Even James got a kick out of it.
On a work/ interest note... did you know that people out here have to have all of their water delivered by trucks? I mean... all of their water. They have large water tanks like we have oil tanks. If you are lucky enough to have a well.... then your land is worth a LOT of money. There ain't no lawn watering out here.
From there we headed toward the Grand Canyon. As we were walking to the edge Elisabeth suggested that we close our eyes hold hands and then open them up all at once. So that's what we did..except for the one person who was designated to see…Brian. The Grand Canyon was expansive and impressive but almost too much so… You almost can’t take it all in. We hiked down into the Canyon some to get a little taste of it. Since it was the afternoon and most everyone was coming up from their hikes…. that, I am sure they started much earlier in the day. The hikers all looked the same.. REI or EMS outfitted … head down, breathing heavy, sweaty, and mumbling. The actually didn’t look very happy. I think that may be why I like mountains better than canyons. You get a little view and then it spurs you on to climb higher. The whole time it is more exhilarating. Before you start down into canyon you already get some of the best views….then it’s just drudgery to get back up out of the canyon.
We did a little shopping and a little more sight seeing and it seemed as though everyone was starting to feel the effect of being together for almost a week non-stop in confined conditions. The kids were bickering and it was getting tough. I think it was time for bed.
We needed to find a campsite and heard that you could camp on national forest land but were warned to stay away from Indian Reservation land. We also saw some strange signs on the road...one was a picture of what looked like mountain lion crossing... at that point tents were out of the question to everyone. Late into the night, we saw something called Cameron’s Trading Post and decided to stop. Internet service has been spotty at best, so trying to plan places to stay has been difficult. The two weeks we were dealing with the flooding... I was supposed to be planning more details for this trip... but Since that didn't happen, we are kinda winging it. So when we find something interesting...we stop... we’re lucky that it is off-season. We pulled in one place and asked if they had any sites. The manager said "sure...how many do you want?" …. That was a joke "…we only needed one. Tomorrow should be a better day.

After this long trip, coming up to Maine will seem like a breeze! We know that seeing the new baby will spur you on.

Hey, What troopers you are! I love the picture of the Grand Canyon... makes me wish I could fly! Have a blast and what... you're washing clothes on vacation! Just ask James, you're not suppose to wash socks until they pass the stick test: throw them up to the ceiling, if they stick maybe you should consider washing them.
