So....we had a long way to go....after missing out on the pool at the KOA...we were tempted to stay a little later in the morning and relax a bit...but...we were still in California and we had a long way to go.  Brian woke up about 5am we disconnected and were on the road by 5:30.  The little ones were still sound asleep.  I tried sleeping but to no avail.  I was a little excited and the back bed acts like a trampoline.  Katie and i snuggled for a little while but then i think my brain was a milkshake.  It didn't seem to affect Katie the same way and she slept another couple of hours.

The sun was still down when we left and Brian was getting into cruise mode.  Because of the flood, i didn't get to set up all the computer stuff i wanted to.  Dad did loan us his hot spot...thanks dad!... I didn't pack an AC adapter, so i couldn't run the laptop.  But...one stop to the store fixed all that and now we are live

Today we drove 720 miles.  We went through the San Joaquin Valley, over the hills and the Mojave Dessert all in the same day.  The roads at times were really "rattle your teeth rough"  while i was trying to use the mouse it was bouncing all over the screen.  At one point in the road we saw dark lava rocks.  There was freshly molten rock in a straight line all along the highway.  We were speculating that maybe it was the San Andreas Fault.  The kids asked what that was and i briefly explained plate tectonics.  After which Lis responded "for all I know there could be an earthquake going on right now and we wouldn't even know it!"  We now have a road measure...rt64 is a 7.5 on the RV scale.

Somewhere between CA and AZ i drove for an hour or so.  I was driving through the dessert which was in full bloom and actually green and brown instead of the usual brown and brown.  In the distance you could see the mountain peaks rising up out of the ground.  So sharp and so primitive.  I was listening to my daily audio bible podcast and we were in Deuteronomy...Moses was in the dessert.  I could so relate being in the dessert myself and it was a very moving and spiritual experience.  Imagine...a million people traveling through a desert for 40 years with no food or water.  You would need a God to keep everyone fed and alive.  We have to stop every 2 days at a mini mart to fill up on snacks and pasta.  There is nothing out here.

We arrived at the first KOA near our destination.  Experience told us that the "sandbox" options were not very pleasant. We had a little more daylight and decided to push on.  with a little curiosity we drove a small portion of RT 66. Famous from the cars movie.  they sure did get it right in the movie. We saw a real live "mater"!  We also found a KOA nestled in Ponderosa Pineswith a Swimming pool and hot tub! Wahoo... great ending to a long day.KOA with swimming pool.  Pictures will be arriving Soon... we are expecting rain and now is the time to take a walk.

By the way...did you take the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon? It is an old steam train and on the way, bandits on horseback and six shooters rob the train! It is awesome

when I was a kid, there was a show called Route 66. Two guys road around the country on Route 66 in a Corvette. Isn't that what the car was in the Cars Movie?
