Where I stayed
The Beach House
I was recommended to come to Wilderness as it's a great place to chill out by the Indian Ocean but also has lots to offer; kloofing, canoeing, hiking, horse riding, paragliding and surfing to name a few. I'm in heaven!
I took the Baz Bus yesterday which is a door to door service and really comfortable compared to the truck. We even had a DVD to watch. It called in to Mossel Bay, which looked pretty but not an awful lot going on and also into George which equally didn't appeal to me. Wilderness is great. I'm here on the net listening to the ocean. I have a great room with sea views and a four poster bed (check out www.wildernessbeachhouse.com my room is on there!). It took me 7 hours on the bus and only cost the equivalent of 30 pounds sterling.
The beach is great and only 50 metres away (if that). I booked to go surfing this morning. It was great fun. As the tide was turning it was hard work to get out and I got walloped a few times by the waves and the board. My instructor said he liked my attitude as I just went for it! I managed to stay on the board most of the time, unless I did nose dives. I stood up a few times in a crouching position, so technically I was surfing although not the most elegant of poses. I think I need a few more lessons.
I'm booked to go horse riding tomorow morning and then a massage in the afternoon. I may try kloofing at some stage; whcih is climbing up big rocks up to 13 metres high and jumping off in to a river. I'll have to think about that one though, as I already have enough bruises from my previous antics. There's a great atmosphere here, very relaxed and easy going. We had a braii last night (BBQ) which was good and I had the best nights sleep for ages.
It's likely I'll chill here until Thursday then head back to Cape Town as I fly out to Perth on Saturday morning. Surprisingly I may give the wine tour a miss, as I know I will be in great wine tasting country over in Western Australia in Margaret River. I still have a couple of hours before the sun sets, so I'm going to make the most of it...
