We left Zambia a week ago and travelled down to Botswana where we stayed on the River Bank of the Chobe River within the Chobe National Park.  We were camping again but it was dry. There were quite a few signs around the camp site warning us to beware of the Crododiles.  In true Becky style I made sure our tent wasn't closest to the water...but close enough to the bar just off the jetty! :-)  The sunset was amazing and the noise of the insects and a hippo grunting, just added to the experience.

We were up really early to go on a jeep safari leaving at 6am.  It was pretty chilly early on, but we soon warmed up with the excitement of all of the animals.  We saw lots and lots of Impala (deer like, with a big black M on their backsides).  We were really fortunate to see two male lions, which were about 5 years old.  There are only 11 in the whole park, which is massive.  We saw a hippo on the land which was great, they are so big and ugly...but you wouldn't want to mess with them as they are the biggest killer of humans in Africa.

We had time to go into the local town and I was so chuffed as I managed to buy a pillow...quite a feat in the town that we were in...but at least it's purple to match my sleeping bag.  In the afternoon we had  a Boat safari where we saw lots of hippos, elephants and giraffe.  We also saw a tortoise on the edge of the river bank, apparently they are very rare to see here too?! Africa is such a country of extremes, having seen and experienced some wonderful sights and smells, there was an awful smell when we stopped to look at a croc and it was where an elephant had died, they were burning it's body.  Really bad.  We had a good night we ate our dinner and drank a few beers sat around the camp fire.....listening to my favourite tracks from Kings of Leon..top night!  I did wake up at 2am and found an army of ants walking all over the end of my sleeping bag, but that's pretty normal now.

We left Chobe to go to Ngepi Camp in Namibia (early start again 5.50am).  Mardy, my tent buddy and I are always slow in the morning....and last on the truck.  I'm not sure that everyone has noticed yet!  We crossed the border from Namibia to Botwana without a drama, as you never know how much interest they will have in the contents of our fridge or the state of our shoes.  We often have to take all our shoes off the truck and disinfect them all. They have had outbreaks of foot and mouth in the past, so you can't blame them.

It was really wet at the Ngepi camp site.  You could upgrade to some bungalows that overlooked the river and were quite stunning (if it was sunny).  The showers were great as they are all themed and outside.  It was quite a bit night as one of the cooks from the other truck was celebrating a birthday.  It turns out I had met him on my previous trip and he knew my group leader and cook and remembered me.  Our group danced on the bar and on the tables and had a lot of fun!
