Out of the open country of Iceland, and into the big city of London, England. What did we get ourselves into? This is huge (that's what she said!)

I must apologize for the slacking of my blogs. You see, its has been nonstop action since we left Iceland and landed on the mainland. And internet... man, have they even heard of internet here? It seems like wherever we go it either costs an arm and a leg for wifi use. Unfortunately I didn't bring my saw.

Back to London. I got to say, I wasn't overly impressed with this city. I mean its beautiful, no doubt, and the history behind this place is enough to keep you occupied for months. But the problem you run into while trying to backpack across this continent is that you can't splurge and head into the Churchill War Museum, the Churchill bunker, or to even check out the architecture behind the Parliament.

We arrived to Heathrow, and luckily the tube, albeit rather intimidating, is relatively painless to use. Get on Piccadelli Line and get off at Piccadelli Circus. Perfect, that's much easier than getting dropped off in the middle of nowhere in Iceland. So I thought. Should have knocked on wood. Its like getting dropped off in the middle of somewhere with millions of lights and sounds, a boisterous crowd, but hey, guess what, still lost. Honestly it should have been a mere 15 minute walk, but it took us roughly 45 minutes to finally get checked into the hostel. By this time, its 12:30 or so, and I mean, it is London afterall, and two Canadian boys, lets hit up a pub for a pint.

Now, if we were back home this would be possible. And in a country that prides itself, at least so I thought, on there pub cultural, pub food and happy gatherings, they stop serving at 11:00 pm. What? Eleven o'clock, are you serious? What do we do. We are thirsty Canadians in the middle of a dry London.

So, we had to settle on the first fast food joint we could find. McDonald's or KFC? Now I know that KFC doesn't treat their chickens well, etc... (thanks Mel!) but we flipped on it. Heads McDonald's, Tails KFC. Heads it is. Big Mac here I come.

A walking tour is definitely in the question for day number two. Fantastic bloody idea! Top notch. And we actually found where we needed to go rather easily. A great tour. Got to see some of London from a perspective of someone who actually knows where things are. I've seen most of them beforehand when I came with my mom a few years back, but it was nice to see it this way for sure.

Again, some people say London is there favourite city in Europe, but I gotta say, for a  backpacker such as myself, low budget, tis not the the place to be.

But uh oh... I'm starting to get worried here. For the next stop, the bright red lights of Amsterdam, Netherlands await. Good thing I'm a religious Catholic lad.

Lord save me!
