So, Rome eh?

We flew from Seattle to London on British Airways, which as it turns out, isn't the best airline. I booked with them because I was lead to believe they are amazing. Not true, so not true. The seats were definitely not as great as they are on some other airlines, and the food was mediocre at best. In fact, for breakfast we got frozen food. And I'm not talking a frozen lean cuisine type meal. I'm talking ice cube type meal. We got frozen yogurt, frozen orange juice, and a frozen salami and cheese tortilla roll-up. Mmm, yummy. The flight was 7 hours over by then, couldn't they have defrosted them a little bit? Oh well. We landed in London after a somewhat uneventful flight. The only thing that happened was that it smelled like burning the whole way there. Oh well, we didn't die. But it smelled like we were going to.

We didn't get a stamp in our passports in London. And I actually argued with the girl at the counter who didn't give me my stamp. I was ticked. EVERY other time I've flown from North America to Europe I've received a stamp at my entry country. Except London. I mean, hello! I purchased a British airways ticket so that I could purposely get a stamp in my passport for England. Not that I like it there or anything, but I've been there, and I want a stamp for it! But then we got a stamp for Rome, when we landed there. Which has never happened to me before. Its always been the layover country, never the one after that. Because once you are in the European Union, you don't need to go through passport control. Anyways. Grrr.

I also now detest the Heathrow airport. They don't tell you your boarding gate until 20 minutes before your flight leaves. And that gate could possibly be 20 minutes away, in a whole other terminal from where you go through security. Anyways....

The flight from London to Rome was good, not too long. I felt like dying (I think it was because I ate the frozen salami roll-up on the previous flight) so I was not a happy camper. I tried to sleep and was able to for a while, but every time I would wake up the woman beside us would start talking. She was nervous/excited. It was her first time abroad, and she was meeting her husband in Rome, who was there on business. It was the first time she would see him in 5 or 6 weeks.

We arrived in Rome and got a stamp in our passport, then took a cab to our hotel. I booked at Al Porticciolo in Fiumicino. The looks of the outside were somewhat discouraging, but inside was amazing! Colorful rooms, great decor, and amazing bathrooms! I will post photos from our stay. We got settled in and went for a walk, before heading to bed. We had to get up in the morning for our flight to Athens!!!!!! I love Athens. Did I mention that?

The breakfast at the hotel was simply amazing. Home made croissants, cakes and breads, with fresh fruits, meats and cheeses. Some nice little cookies, and a few types of juices. And a box of several varieties of tea. We even had someone take our order for what coffee we wanted! We both ordered a cappuccino and it was divine!! After breakfast we headed to the FCO airport via our hotels shuttle and boarded our easyjet flight to Athens!!
