Three hours north of Kandy is Sigiriya. As it came into view I instantly thought of Ayes Rock as it stands alone on the plain, the magma remnants of a long extinct and eroded volcano.
Sigiriya was a Buddhist Monastery established 300 BC and as with all ancient places you feel the scale of effort and skill of humanity that has passed before. Feelings of awe and insignificance settle equally upon each shoulder as everyone shuffles up step after step lost in their thoughts.
Jo's tough time in Sri Lanka continues as she developed a neck strain that had her in all sorts of trouble for the scaling of Sigiriya and the days following. Sometimes it just takes a long time to de-stress methinks. A little tub of Sri Lanka homemade Deep Heat and some Voltarin medication and she is now on the mend.
