Ray and Babs picked me up in plenty time so no panics, except the reason they were in good time was because Babs could not access her cash card and needed to sort it out - which thankfully she did. Went thru security as Ray was convinced there was a café up there, and Babs was bomb scanned - but no café so out again to find one, then going thru again, Ray got scanned. Had quick transfer to int'nl terminal in Sydney, and not too long a wait to board. Seats on A380 AirBus ok, Babs’ seat better as she had the extra legroom with no seat in front, and at least I only disturbed her when getting up and down, tho I did not move as much as I would have if easier access, also my seat in the middle was slightly offset to seat in front, so bit awkward for feet, and a tad claustrophobic. I liked our seats on the 747 in 06 better. Few bumpy bits, even in the middle of food service all attendants had to sit and fasten seat belts - as soon as they did, no more bumps. Noticeably quieter, with shorter take-off and landing, and handy self-service bars for bikkies, drinks and fruit, and the tail-cam overlooking front of plane was fascinating to watch on the screen, especially the take-offs and landings, and ofcourse, still had the route map to watch. I actually watched a whole movie - Slum Dog Millionaire, which I thought was really good.
Landed in Singapore sometime after midnight, off plane and thru a door for immigration & security, then wait in transit lounge for about ˝ hr to re-board, followed by delayed take-off -
Sat 23.5.09
- so landed Heathrow bit after 7am and joined huge line for passports, finally meeting up with Chris’n’Mag about an hour later. Babs spotted Mag, but I spotted Chris first as he was madly waving an Oz flag, then we were all hugging and kissing - surreal feeling to be back.
Our first airbus, my seat is great!
Lovely view of the Thames
& the nosecam is good fun
Picked up by Chris & Mag, so lovely to see them again. Glorious trip back to Temple Ewell.
