Today we went on a free walking tour through London. We met at Monument Tower, which is a monument dedicated to the 'great fire of London' in the year 1666. The fire was started in a Bakery on Pudding Lane and swept through London. After that the King declared that all buildings must be built from stone. There was one benefit to the fire though - it stopped the plague that was spreading through London at the time, as it killed all the Rats.
We then saw the Royal Exchange, the trade of England used to occur in this building, after that we saw the Bank of England. The Bank of England has never been broken into, however it came close once when a sewerage worker found a way into the building and into the gold vaults through the sewerage pipes. But the sewerage guy being the honest fellow he was told the authorities of this security weakness, he was awarded about 200 pounds for his honesty. I think I might have taken the millions of gold bullion if I was him! We then saw the house of Nell Gwyn. Nell was the mistress of King Charles II, she later became a well know actress. We also saw Trafalgar square, St James Park, the Big Ben and lots of other things.
After the walking tour we went up Tower Bridge, we got great views of London from here.
