So, today we went to check out how cheese is made here on a farm only 2 minutes drive away; ‘tis called Cheese & Clogs, and yep – they make clogs too (giving us a demonstration of how they used to be made by hand). The guy presenting (Stephen) had quite a dry sarcastic sense of humour which made it much more interesting than it really was.

Then it was rolling down the road a tad to the little village of Edam to take a, hmm… 5 minute or so bike ride down the canal and then across to the windmill. I was hoping it would be a bit longer, but there really wasn’t too much too Edam and I guess most people were happy it wasn’t longer.

That only left us with like 4 hours to explore Amsterdam – hmm, not that I haven’t done that before with say Oslo, but unlike Oslo, there is more to see in Amsterdam, and to make it worse… the line up’s for the main attractions were massive. Tried going to see Anne Frank’s house, the line up was around the street!! I didn’t bother, but from those who did decide to hang around… the wait was an hour. Instead I went to the Van Gough museum, to reinforce my opinion that I don’t like paintings… even if they are by famous people – give me a fancy building or sculpture, it must be the engineer inside!

Dinner was alright, it was a big asian meal on a floating restaurant which we followed up with a canal boat ride (drinking it dry of beer of course…). Met up with the other Contiki group who were having their last night of their tour in Amsterdam and spent the rest of the night at the Pirate’s Bar, which was a little meh, they kept playing like 15second grabs of music before switching to the next crappy pop song, and it was a bit like a try-hard DJ!.
