We were greeted bright and early (7am)at the airport by Merv's auntie and uncle after a bit of a kerfuffle at immigration! Mario and Annie proceeded to ensure we had made the most of the duty free on offer before driving us out into Mauritius and tealling us everything we would need to know! We stopped off at their house for some tea, toast and cheese and local bananas and met more of the family including nan. We then headed for the hire car place where the car was waiting having been serviced, Mario took the wheel at the start and showed me how it all worked and the rules (i use the term loosely) of the road in Mauritius, then it was my turn......having never driven an automatic i tried to change gear at every roundabout and the indicator stalk is on the other side so i kept turning on the windscreen wipers rather than indicating! Luckily Tim was the same when he tried! We stopped off at 'Super U' - the supermarket for our first shop and also sorted a local SIM card so it would be cheaper for us to keep in contact over here! Then off to Pereybere to 'Le Petit Prince' all is nice - there is everything we need including a fully stocked kitchen, living room/1st bedroom, a second bedroom and a bathroom plus a large balcony with table and chairs, from which you can see the sea and in the evenings an amazing sunset! In the afternoon we hit the beach for the first time, very nice white sandy beach and crystal clear water but quite small! After that it was bbq time which was a struggle as neither of us can build fire very well but in the end it was good with Tim's nicely marinaded chicken and some pasta with semi cooked sweetcorn and peas (my fault!). Then, as if the day wasn't long enough we went to 'Murphy's bar' the most un-irish looking irish bar where Nevin behind the bar made sure we tried the local 'chilli rum' and 'aniseed rum' - both equally as rank. This was followed by a couple of pints and a tired wander home - a good day!
