Cinque Terra was awe-inspiring

The mission man inside me struck again, making it Sei Terra (six towns) by the time I had finished the nine-hour hike along the Mediterranean coast. I walked from Riomaggiore to Levento stopping only briefly to eat granola with yogurt, throw together a sandwich, and get back on the trails before the neighborhood cats had time to steal my lunch. The hike from Riomaggiore (the south most town) to Monterrosso (the north most town) is supposed to be about 5 hours.. but sections of the trail were closed and instead of taking the train to the next town and resuming the hike from there, I chose to walk around... And forget about stopping at Monterrosso.. my hostel was in neighboring Levento and I hadn't come that far to just jump on a train for the last few kilometers. As it turns out I was misinformed about the distance between these two towns.. and what I expected to take just over an hour was about two and a half. The good side of this was that I got a great sunset view of the five towns from high on a peak above; however, that meant the final 45 minutes of the hike was in darkness (my reading light came in pretty handy!)

The hike was a little ambitious, but naturally well worth it! Perhaps I should've listened closely to the girl at the ticket office when I told her of my plan for the day (Riomaggiore-Levento); 'I think it's too far'. But the passage in my book from the night prior had probably inspired me slightly 'It's better to make a mistake then to simply follow convention'. So I did it.. and loved it... and especially loved the shower and pizza dinner afterward! The scenery along this trail was breathtaking, and I fully intend to make you all very jealous when I share some of my hundred or so photos with you in the future... Never before have I experienced such a beautiful coast.
