Air Canada.  What can I say?  They took care of the flight change debacle.  Free wine and beer on the international flight.  The flight attendant on the right side gave us wine and then the flight attendant on the left side gave us more.  Then, the same thing later with beer.  I got a Heineken and a Molson Canadian.  Sorry, beer lovers.  I couldn't tell the difference.  Heidi said the Molson was sweeter.

It Toronto, we had to claim our bags and go through US Customs.  Weird.  And then, although we hadn't left the security zone, we had to go through security again.  We're really good at it.  After all that travel, my carry-on gets flagged.  The agent waves a magic wand over it.  I open the bag to reveal my contraband dirty clothes.  The magic wand is happy.  The agent is happy.  And we're on our merry way.

Finally, O'Hare baggage claim and into the arms of Grammy & Grampy Kolls.  The drive home was marred by road work that has come to a standstill as the union is on strike and the Land of Lincoln is out of money.  We arrive at the homestead and Anita is already there.  AND, we're joined shortly by brother Kent.  We had a great time.  We stayed up 'til 10.  Boy, were we tired after that long day.  So tired, in fact, that we both woke up, wide-eyed, about 5 hours later.  Heidi said, "We can try to go back to sleep or hit the road."  We were afraid we might jetlag like we did in Dublin on day two, so we packed up for the last time this trip and drove the red car south.

The drive home seemed short.  We stopped for Mexican in Mo. at a place where the only Spanish ever spoken there is the titles on the menu.  The homestead was intact.  The pool was a more pleasant shade of green when compared to the last long voyage.  The dog seemed barely amused at our return and then at least slightly annoyed.  It was good to be home, to have a little rest before returning to work for me, and some time to prepare to ship Karen off to Japan for Heidi.

We'd like to thank you for indulging us in this extravaganza, for the kind words of encouragement, and especially to Karen and Jacqueline for watching over things and to Jonah and Daniel for taking up my slack.
