Heidi here.  All of the preplanning in the world won't work if you sleep in until 11:50 am!!!!  This may be the first time since my college days that I was able to sleep in past 8:00, and it had to be on a day when we had many miles to go.  Needless to say we got off to a late start.

The itinerary called for Howth today.  Howth is a sleepy little fishing village about 30 minutes outside of Dublin.  The plan was to get out of the city and see some of the countryside.  It didn't disappoint.  We had lunch at a quaint little fish place before hiking up and down the cliffs of Howth.  The day was perfection, not a cloud in the sky and calm breezes.  When we got to the end of our leg of the hike, we picked up a bus back to Dublin for 1.15 Euro.  It allowed us to see a bit more of the cities along our path.  The train, while fast and cheap, doesn't have great views of the cities.  Once again we braved the top deck of the bus, and enjoyed the ride immensely despite more white knuckle moments.

Due to our late start, we were unable to go to Mulhaire Castle or the Guinness Storehouse.  So, we decided to take the train south out of Dublin to see what there was to see.  I asked the train ticket taker what city we should stop at to get a good feel for the area.  He sent us to Dun Laoghaire.  It was a great call.  A lovely seafaring town.  We walked the seawall and then stopped at a bar and grill that was well recommended by a local exiting the restaurant.  Bart had fish and chips and I had pork and leak sausage with mashed potatoes and onions.  Yummy!

Our trip home was exciting.  For some reason, the trains were not taking any passengers.  SOOO we once again took the bus back to the city.  It was unexpected, but again a fun ride.  We're exhausted.  Tomorrow, we fly back to London.
