Crossed the Mekong river and the border to Laos, got a visa for $35 US dollars, and a quick tuk tuk ride to the slow boat. The slow boat was the most uncomfortable boat. I don't think there was anywhere to sit that was even the least bit comfortable BUT the scenery was so beautiful that I didn't care that I couldn't feel my butt anymore. THe first day down the Mekong was 7 hours. Think gorgeous jungle-y looking asian hills with blue mountains in the background with mist floating down. Very ethereal, next to a chocolate brown muddy river.
