Hello everyone. I guess its been some time since we wrote one of these. So we are now in a city called Canberra which is the capital of Australia however it doesnt feel like a capital because not very many people live here. Kathleen has been busy working on her geological samples at Australia National University (ANU) and has come up with some intresting data. If you would like to know the specifics, write her and Im sure she will be more than happy to tell you all about it.

While Kathleen is off running the 3 million dollar machine I spend my time doing other things. I got lucky and was hooked up with a bike to use. Its not the best machine I have ever seen, but It gets around pretty good. The bottom bracked is shot and the front tire keeps going flat but other than that it runs great. I have checked out a lot of the different National Attractions but still have a few to go.

When we wrote last time the map said that we were in Sydney. After that we traveled to Canberra and stayed there for about two weeks. Then we travled with Paul Link and Mark Fanning to Adelaide for a week. Paul and Mark wanted to do some field work in that area and they invited us along. When we got there we decided to stay in Adelaide instead of going into the desert to look at rocks. We ended up staying in the house of Erick Bestland, a former post doc student from ISU. He is moving houses and needed a little help cleaning up the old one. He also showed us some of the boldering areas around Adelaide.

We didnt really realize it when we first arrived in Adelaide but we were there for the first part of a month long festival called the Frienge. Basically it takes all of the artists in the area (and some from other areas) and sets up vineues for them to do whatever they do. There are a lot of different musical shows and comidians as well as photos and painting. We spent most of our time watching all of the street performers. One guy could fit his body through a tennis racket. Anouther dude juggled fire sticks, blindfolded, on top of a 10 foot tall unicycle, with chuncks of plywood covering the uneven grass. I thought he was going to wreck for sure.

Today we got back in the car and drove back to Canberra. It wasnt as long as going there but it was still a long drive. Its a long ways from city to city with very little in between. Well, I think thats it for now. I hope everything is going well for you all.
