What I did
City Bus Tour, Schloss Nymphenburg, Alta Pintoteck
Well today started out rough as the Bus tour guide lady gave us poor instructions on catching the bus we wanted at a different stand...then when we finally got on it, got the worst seats on the bus. All the while Glenn Miserable with a cold. Once we did the small loop he left and went back to the hotel and I found a seat upstairs on the bus and traveled on to Schloss Nymphenberg. From the outside it looks a palatial estate. Not very tall and imposing as some castles, no 'oh wow' architecture though the layout is beautiful at the end of a long canal with a pond in front with white swans and ducks. Inside though....WOW. Beautiful examples of Baroque overabundance! Just wow. The room of the Beauties was amazing. The king of the time wanted paintings of various beautiful women hanging in one room. These ranged from cobblers daughters to Princesses and even by today's standards would be classed as beauties.
The carriage and sled museum was amazing. Hunting sleds, indoor children's sleds, carriages for this and that occasion. A merry go round with a set up for doing jousting practice, horse furnishings...all wow.
Once finished with tour went to the Alte Pinthothek which is a museum dedicated to medieval to 18th century art. Some really nice stuff and again saw a lot of paintings I have only ever seen on the internet and such details I had not noticed before.
From there went to Marienplatz and went to the building I had noticed on the first day and turns out it is a town hall, and holds regular businesses as well. There is a lift up to the tower, which gave an amazing view of the city...all the way to the alps. Then went a church and went up into their tower..another amazing view, taller than the first building.
Then back to the hotel with currywurst. Tomorrow we head to venice.
