Went to San Gimignano today. It's a cute little town, perched high on a hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside, and is famous for it's medieval towers (they wer built by powerful families, and were a sign of wealth). Only 13 towers remain, but at one stage there were 72, which would have been quite a sight, like a little city of skyscrapers. Apart from that, there wasn't so much to do in San Gimignano. I didn't feel like visiting the church or museums or climbing any more towers, so I had a nice lunch, a glass of Brunello from Montalpucinio and selection of cheeses, then a lovely passagiata (stroll)outside the town's walls into the surrounding countryside.
