I was greeted to Rome with clear blue skies, though it was rather chilly at 7 o'clock in the morning. After freshening up at the hostel I hit the ground running despite having only had 2 hours sleep in the past 48 hours. After a whole day of walking though I was hobbling, and resolved that I could not compete with the Italians in the glamorous footwear department, and resorted to my comfy sneakers the next day. I became one big walking Italian tourist cliche, visiting the Trevi fountain, the Colloseum, Roman Forum and Palatine, the mouth of truth, Trastavere, etc etc, stopping occasionally for an espresso, a slice of pizza, or gelati.
I decided that ROme would be the perfect place to learn the Italian language. However,my aspirations were quickly put to rest after making a few enquiries. I was told that learning in Rome I would speak like a truck driver, or "Il bruto", and it would be better to learn in Florence which has a more graceful accent. So after my 2 days in ROme I headed for Florence.
