Today, we got up early and took off to my favorite surf spot while going to school here. My spot is located off of studio drive and Coronado in Cayucos. This is where i caught my first California wave and is full of wonderful memories with lots of friends. It's neat to come back to Cayucos because it never changes. For the five years i spent at Cal Poly, this area seems to never change and the vibe is always the same. The people that live in this area are very jovial retired folk, who just live here cause they like it. I was able to partake in this beautiful area while i was in school for early morning sessions and to the occassional weekend exploration. My friend Corey and I would come here on a weekly basis while we were in school. There were days that were awesome and some dismal days, but we were always greeted by the locals in (Dolphins) and out of the water. Today was a beautiful day, clear and sunny. Couldn't ask for better weather than this. However, the waves were not as good as i imagined them to be. However, it was nostalgic for me and I wish all my friends could have came out to experience it again. My session featured a few good rides, I got covered up one time and with that it was already worth it. I stayed south of coronado while jess moved up north. It was a day that i would paddle until i couldn't paddle anymore because I wasn't sure when i was going to return again. So i gave it my all, until I just couldn't feel my arms. Afterwards, we changed up and took a traditional fish taco lunch at the Taco Temple, just a few miles from Studio and Coronado. After another nostalgic meal like Firestones, we took off for Santa Cruz, where we would stay with my good friend, Matt O Brien. Before arriving in Ben Lomand where my friend resided, we stopped over at the Santa Cruz boardwalk. I don't remember the boardwalk being this crowded, but the place was packed with tourist from all over. There is not surf here, but there are roller coasters and various rides to suit your style along with tons of overpriced food. What a combination for great profit. anyways, after doing the tourist thing, we were over it and took off to the redwood forest of Ben Lomand. We had to shoot hoops at matt's house before he arrived home from doing errands. it was good to see matt, he was doing great with a stable job and a house that he and girlfriend bought together. It was an old house and a real fixer upper. For dinner we just chilled at a local place that Matt used to work at called "Ciao Bella". This place is eccentric to say the least, it's covered with vinyl records along with a stage with several poles for ones enjoyment. It's not a strip bar by any means, but the waiters and waitresses participate in a dance for a all the customers. It was a fun experience and I could say I never experienced such a weird meal (in a good way) in my life, not the the food by any means, but the environment and people. Our surf trip was great already, I have reconnected with old places, old friends, and even old food. I think this is a great trip .
