Wow, 1 month seemed like such a long time when I got here, and now I am like...where did the month go? I got to see a lot and do a lot. I wish the weather had been better...I think I had 4 actual days with sun out of the entire month. It rained and/or was overcast the other times. Which reminds me...we had an actual CYCLONE pass through the state of Rio de Janeiro on Friday! It rained like mad. It was overcast, then all of a sudden it started pouring and the winds were psychotically fast. People are used to windy weather and rain here in the winter...especially cuz of the big ass lagoon nearby...but residents were astonished by the force of the 'storm'. There was flooding in all of the cities near the coast. My grandparents in São Pedro told me the roof leaked on them. Family in Cabo Frio had water make its way into the walls and foundation. People here in Araruama had flooding and some major streets in Rio also suffered from flooding. And, this is the kicker...people are only finding out TODAY that it was a cyclone! LOL! The satellite that would pick something like that up has been undergoing maintenance since late August! So nobody even saw the sucker coming! With the world all preoccupied with Katrina and Rita...I guess they didn't wanna sweat the 'small' stuff. Although I have seen reports of Typhoons in Vietnam and China. Crazyness...mother nature is trying to do some population control I think!
Anyway...I fly out tomorrow from Rio at 2 pm. I get to São Paulo around 3:20 and then only leave for Toronto at 9:30 PM. Yes, that's right...I am gonna be stuck at the airport for 7 frikkin' hours. Guess I'll be getting to know THAT airport quite well! *SIGH*. Lots of duty-free shopping at incredibly high prices for me! LOL.
I am still in awe at the amount of family I have. I had so much fun meeting them all and got along really well with the 4 cousins I have in Araruama. I think I've been oficially dubbed "Coolest Cousin EVER". Works for me! I don't mind having a fan club! Everyone was really nice and went all out for me. I only have the highest level of gratitude for them. I'm coming back with so many presents and sweet traditional yummies. I know for sure my Dad is going to enjoy them!
Oh, tried to get a picture of me with my new sleek 'do' and discovered my digital camera is on strike. I try to turn it on and I get a "LENS ERROR" message. Which I am baffled at...cuz it was working just fine before! I don't see any obstructions, and I cleaned it and everything seems fine...except the damn thing doesn't wanna work! Well, at least it happened 4 days before I left instead of at the beginning of my trip.
Gotta go...this will probably be my last entry in Brazil. I'll make one once I am home to discuss how my trip (and the 7 hours at the airport) went. Tchau for now!
