Where I stayed
CLubhouse, West Yellowstone
I thought I finished writing the diary, but I haven't. I forgot that on Monday the Labor Day we saw those amazing canyon!!!! After two days of work, I’m surprised to find that I almost forgot about everything, well, not the gorgeous canyon view ;) Each morning we got up later than we planned. But that’s okay. The night before we stayed at the Comfort Inn near north entrance, which was our favorite during the trip. It came with one room with a queen bed and the main room with two queen beds.
So the thing I remembered was that we went to the Canyon Village Visitor Center, where we looked at exhibits about the canyon. It was a very nice exhibit. Cynthia and I were totally absorbed into learning about the rocks, canyon, native Indian stories, etc. On the first floor slept our two friends who don’t seem very interested in learning about these things. As Cynthia and I came downstairs, the theatre was about to show a short film (20-film) on Yellowstone park. So we left the two resting on the bench and we went in for the very nice movie. We both enjoyed it very much :)
That day Cynthia and I had the left-over Chinese food for lunch. We had it in the car after the museum visit. At the same time, Michelle went for soup at the store. The queuing time was equivalent to our eating time :p After lunch, we were on the road to see the Canyon Village area! We got a trail map at the museum (we didn’t pay coz we didn’t bring money with us).
Our route:
Visitor Center --> Brink of Lower Falls Trail --> along North Rim Drive --> Lookout Point --> Grand View --> Inspiration Point (passed by the big glacial boulder) --> Uncle Tom’s Trail --> Along South Rim Trail --> Artist Point
Cynthia was driving while I was reading the map. There was some hike for the "brink of Lower Falls Trail" and the “Uncle Tom’s Trail”. The views are awesome at every point. The Artist point is the most photographed views in the Yellowstone, but I feel that one of the earlier points was the prettiest. The canyon view was exactly like a picture. It’s gorgeous, breath-taking, and now I have one of the pictures as my wallpaper. At this time, how awesome if God our Creator. How can anything 'random’ come out to be so beautiful? No, there is a creator. God is ‘nowhere’. It’s true. I think different people have a different feeling/perspective of God. My strongest feeling for me comes in the Nature, His Marvelous Creation.
The Lower Falls is pretty interesting. There’s a permanent rainbow at the bottom. There is a green strip on the left side of the fall. I don’t know why… and I wanna know why! Along the trails we met a couple from North Carolina. They are doing a month-long trip in the US and Canada. They were older so the Asian-looking lady walked quite slowly in the Uncle Tom’s Trail. We talked some after we almost finished the Tom Trail.
After the Canyon area, we passed the mud volcano (we skipped sulphur caldron, probably thinking that it smells too sulphur?). The Dragon Mouth in the mud volcano area is awesome. The fumaroles sound like a roaring dragon!! Some random hiker named it a century earlier. Then we went south to the Lake Village area. It was kinda late already. We stopped at Mary Bay and Steamboat Point and headed to Natural Bridge. It was 7pm and the natural bridge trail is over 1 mile one-way. So I decided not to go. There we saw an owl. At first it looked like dead (to me)..hahahaha. From Natural Bridge we went south and then west in a loop. Cynthia drove fast, wanting to make it back to the Midway Geyser Basin for the Grand Prismatic Spring that the other 2 missed. Unfortunately, it was 8pm when we got there. It was too dark to see the colors. Instead, we took some pictures at nightfall. I also saw Jupiter shining in the East.
So we left the park. That concludes our trip in the Yellowstone Park. We went to eat at Huckwinkle restaurant. The waiter is kinda funny… but the food was a real disappointment My Huckleberry Chicken Salad was really bad, especially when it had bleu cheese in it :’( That night I slept late… around 12:30am. I was checking work email, in case anything urgent I needed to take care of.
