London to Dubai
We had a lovely day yesterday, Sarah and Stephen's wedding was just perfect, all that planning paid off and everything went exactly as it should. So, to today, and the start of our long awaited holiday, after breakfast at the hotel and a quick trip to the barn to retrieve our equipment we met up with Scott, Katy, Adam and Cemile and headed to Basingstoke for a late bite of lunch. Cemile kindly dropped us off at Heathrow while the others made their way back home. After a speedy check in and fast track through security we headed straight for the Emirates Lounge for a cup of tea and a sit down - that's where we stayed, it was just too comfortable and had everything on tap, from champagne to a full blown meal so shopping suddenly seemed less attractive.
Before long, our A380 pulled up right in front of the lounge window, an impressive sight that made the Jumbo Jets look like dinky toys! The whole process of unloading and reloading the cargo and meals made for fascinating watching, the most amazing thing was seeing the meals being loaded from lorries that were on scissor jacks that reached to the top loading door, probably 40-50 feet off the ground -all that to get my dinner on board.
When we boarded, we were not disappointed, the 'seats' are like a space pod they recline to a totally flat bed, complete with mattress, pillow and full size blanket. When upright you are cocooned in your own little world of entertainment with a 15" television screen, mini bar, massage seat and lots more. All that said, the service was no-where as good as Singapore Airlines which was much more personal and akin to a fine dining restaurant.
We are just about to land in Dubai so technically it's now tomorrow......
