I left Beijing with most of my items packed up. I only left behind a few knickknacks of a cooking pot, slippers, a sweater and some cleaning supplies. When checking out, the staff at the dormitories charged me 2 RMB for misplacing something in my room. I am guessing my roommate took it away a few weeks prior, but whatever. I had booked the same flight as my classmate who was also from Washington State. Although he is technically closer to Canada, we would fly in to Seattle-Tacoma International.

The city was literally emptying out, with an eerie ghost town feel to
it. I was very accustomed to the streets packed with people walking
about and tending to their own affairs. But with the Spring Festival in
everyone's mind, most people in the city had already departed to visit
their families elsewhere in the country. I was the third last to leave Beijing out of our group. Sofia would be next to leave a couple hours later, then Jeff later in the afternoon. I caught a cab to the airport around 9am, and the cabbie engaged me into conversation to see how much Chinese I had acquired. Turns out, he lives in Beijing and does not need to travel far to celebrate the Spring Festival with his family. He recommended I wear red on the New Years day, a Chinese tradition of course. And he was able to correctly guess my age on the first try. We discussed about American life and Chinese life, then my occupation and my studies at university. He was quite a talkative fellow.

I met up with Leigh at the airport and got in line to check in my bags and discovered I was 2 KG overweight in my big bag. My little luggage was only 16 KG and the representative was nice enough to let me pass and promptly stuck a red "HEAVY" tag onto my big luggage. Terminal 2 was not pretty, it had lacked the Burger King I had so desperately craved for. While on board the plane, I was eating like crazy as I did not have any breakfast. Leigh commented the cake dessert was a bit off, where I replied it was some in front of me, so I consumed it. I was unable to sleep on the overnight flight into Seattle, so I played some games on the DS and sat through the dreadful in-flight movies.

When I landed in Seattle, it was great to breeze through the customs and told them, I need some Starbucks now! The air quality was so clean and damp, the clouds were gray and the Wednesday morning had just begun. I had traveled several hours back in time, haha. Now for me to get my visa ready for the second quarter and munch on some Mexican food and consume the king of all soups, pho!
